After ALOT of searching and house viewings (which I admit, some were just me being nosey) we found our gem- A 1900 Stone built miners house. To this day we cant believe what a blessing it was and how we bagged it for 20 grand less than originally advertised for!!!
So here's a tour of all my 'Before' photos and I will gradually be posting on the progress of turning it into our home throughout my blog :)
Waiting for the sale to be finalised felt like forever - maybe because our tenancy had ended, so all our stuff was in storage (getting damp, don't ask) and we were living with family in a box room... so when that SOLD went up it was such a relief.
As you can see, it did need some work but compared to others in our teeny tiny budget that needed gutting, this place was a palace.
One huge plus to the house was that a few years previous it had been given a grant for modernising so the roof and windows had been replaced along with some of the electrics and most of the house had been re-plastered - except for the living room which for some reason the previous owner had refused to let them touch as that was the room he lived in?!
The kitchen and bathroom, while not being pretty, were clean and in reasonably good condition so would easily keep us going while we saved up again.
The only downside to the house is no natural light in the kitchen except for that little tiny window through to the dining room and the back door. The way the street is built into the side of the valley means that the back of the house is actually underground! (Ground level is about where the tops of the kitchen wall units are) Thank goodness for daylight LEDs! Its a small price to pay because the flip side is the view from the back garden...
When you open the back door you immediately go up stairs to a walled yard then another flight of stairs to the garden, when you eventually get to the top, which keeps you fit!! you can see over the roof's of our street to the woods on the other side of the valley.
