We are at the beginning of a new year, and a brand new blog for me. So I thought I’d start of with some big announcements… no not Trump as president… The 2017 Colours of the year!
As I stated over there >>>
I am slightly obsessed with colour charts, I have a whole drawer in my dresser dedicated to them and believe me, its overflowing. I’m telling you its an addiction, if I see a new one in any DIY store I just have to have it, even if its exactly the same as one I’ve got but with a different cover. Then when I get home I study it (with a coffee in hand) putting little
ticks next to any colours I want to try. Sad isn’t it?!
But obviously I’m not the only one with a love for colours, otherwise who would bother producing ‘colours of the year’ and after all look at Pantone - they have built a huge successful business on what? Colours!
So here we are at No 1 - PANTONE - Greenery >
Yes the good news is that it looks like 2017 is going to be a colourful year with this bright, zingy but natural shade setting the tone. Personally I love green, it's a peaceful easy colour to live with and is a surprising good 'neutral' to add other colour accents to, just look at nature, green is the backdrop for practically every other colour imaginable, from the fresh bright shade of grass mixing beautifully with the azure blues of the sky and rainbows of flowers, to the muted cool and deep sages of distant hillsides blending with deep red sunsets or a misty lilac grey haze.
Next in at No 2 we have - DULUX - Denim Drift
Dulux describe it this way - “Denim Drift is the must-have colour of 2017. It is truly adaptable, fitting into all life and interior styles, making it the perfect choice for reflecting our new perspective for 2017”
I like it! It’s a warm grey/blue that as they say, will fit lots of different styles. I can see it looking equally as beautiful in modern tonal schemes as it would in a more traditional setting paired with warm grey and wood tones or even with classic crisp white for a coastal or country house (think blue and white china)
To Sum up, this year expect to see a lot more of
Red (and possibly a few pinks/corals thrown in)
And of course Whites and Neutrals (grey is still a big hit)
Already other companies are expanding on these trends like CROWN paints who have gone for the yellows in their latest inspiration images.
VALSPAR have beaten F&B by picking 12, yes 12! Colours. Including their take on the main trends, Botanical Yellow Green, Baked Terra Cotta, 3 Shades of Blues, Airy Luminous Yellow and a Perfect Peaceful White.
Meanwhile across the pond big names like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams have gone for a dark sultry purple, Shadow and a rich grey/stone Poised Taupe, so expect to see these filtering in to our UK trends soon...
In my next blog I’ll be looking at how to use these colours and going through some of the new high street Spring collections. Ou the anticipation is building for new catalogues arriving at my door…
